It's amazing the difference a little rest makes. [She looks much better. There is more color on her cheeks, her wounds are either healed or healing and her hair has been Charmed so the frizziness is gone.]

Have you explored the village? If not, I think we should start there and then branch out into the less obvious attributes of Luceti.

I wasn't sure about this place when I first arrived, but it is proving to be quite fascinating. I almost don't mind losing some of my abilities [Or, rather, the intensity of them.] in order to meet those I never thought I would [More like: "could meet".].

If Luceti really is located in another dimension, it makes me wonder how many other dimensions there might be. Of course visiting them and keeping a tally would probably be a nightmare, but it is interesting to think about.

[She is slowly braiding her hair, sitting cross-legged in a chair. Over-all, she looks much better than she had on her arrival.]

If I were guessing, I would say there are more dimensions than that. New worlds keep cropping up, don't they? There is even the possibility of worlds within worlds.

It's nice to meet you, Arsene. [Her tone softens, almost shyly.] I'm afraid I'll talk about the various worlds and dimensions quite a bit. You're right, it is fun to think about, but terrifying to analyze too closely.

Lupin's fine. [It was an automatic response--so many people unfamiliar with French tended to slaughter his given name.]

Honestly? After a while it become easier to not think too hard on the details. There's too many of them, and they become a mess if you look at them too closely.

[How ironic.] Alright. [She can empathize. Her name is butchered right and left.] Feel free to call me Mione if that's easier.

I'd rather examine the details and take note of them. [It's just her nature.]

Hermione's not that hard. The name's Greek, right?

[He chuffs, amused.] If you're insisting, then I have a warning for you: don't be so bullheaded about it that you refuse to believe the people who have been here for years. This place is more complicated than what scientific theory can help us with.

Not many people know the origin. [She's impressed.] Hermione was also one of Shakespeare's characters from his play A Winter's Tale.

I will listen to anyone who is willing to tell me about their experience. But I don't think there's anything wrong with remaining skeptical and compiling facts for myself.

[He's something of an amateur linguist and a professional information miner; such details aren't lost on him.]

You're right, there's nothing wrong with being a little skeptical...just don't get like some people that arrived a few cycles ago. They're insisting that it's possibly to surgically remove the wings without ill effect, when there is all ready documentation on how removing even one is terrible on the body.

That's not something we can explain by science. It's just a fact of this world.

I know for a fact that it hurts to even touch them. [Her voice shakes a bit.] Will they die if...they're removed? That's what I heard, at least, and I was told it wouldn't be a painless death. I don't know why anyone would want to test that theory. They're not that bothersome.

[Except when it comes to shirts and jackets. Oh and sleeping positions.]

Yes. According to the information we currently have, that is the only outcome. I...don't get it either, but that's what happens to some of the really curious sorts.

If you work it right, you can keep them folded up under a jacket. I normally do that myself, but it's just too hot right now to bother with it.

There's a line between being curious and being suicidal. [She sounds grim rather than accusatory.]

I can't even think about wearing a jacket right now.

[There's a touch of laughter in his tone--he likes how this girl gets it.]

...Yeah, it's way too hot for a jacket right now. If they bother you, maybe finding something with an open back might be good. A camisole or something like it might be good, that way you don't need to fuss with sleeves and fabric throughout the day.

Because they obviously know better. [Even Hermione won't let her curiosity take her to a deadly outcome.]

Hm that's a good idea. I don't really see a problem cutting out holes for them and it's not like I have anything to hide on my back.

[She's more concerned about hiding a certain word carved into her arm.]

When Winter comes, I'll deal with keeping warm somehow. I am fairly talented when it comes to creating flames.

[Lupin chuckles, quietly pleased with how clear headed this girl was for a New Feather. So many that he's seen either refuse to accept it or just don't want to believe it. It was why he generally didn't try to talk to them at first.]

Cutting holes is another popular option. Lots of people do it, and its better for most weather patterns around here. It follows the seasonal pattern in the north, if you're familiar with it.

...the wings really do fold up under coats nicely, but knowing a few tricks can't hurt. The summer is hot, but the winter can get very cold.

How is it that you create flames anyway?

In the...north? Do you mean Luceti experiences all four seasons? I'm used to that if that's the case. [She can't help but think about Hogwarts castle covered in white, fluffy snow.]

I'm a Witch. [There's really no reason to hide it, is there?] I know my powers are dampened, but I should still be able to create flames.

Yeah. All four seasons here. You might want to be careful when winter comes too, because we had a couple of nasty storms this year.

So you're a Witch, huh? [He grins--she was yet another that he had met.] The power dampening is a common complaint, but people manage to get around it. There are spirits here who can help with that if you ever want to learn from them...

There's also a little club starting up for people who use magic. It's the brainchild of a really tall wizard called Harry Dresden, if you want to look him up. The first meeting should be sometime in the next few weeks too, so you can drop on in. I don't think Dresden will mind party crashers.

I know the best way to deal with storms: don't enter them in the first place. [A storm was the perfect weather for holing up in a library with a pile of books.]

I am. [She nods to herself, humming.] I spoke to someone about that. She was trying to locate one spirit in particular.

[Hermione already has several ideas for that club, which she will gladly share with Harry - and anyone else.]

I was in charge of a similar club for several years. We used it to teach fellow Witches and Wizards how to best defend themselves in duels and dangerous situations. I'd like to speak to Harry about incorporating some of that into his club.

...I was thinking that he might do that anyway. He's pretty slick, for an odd duck. [He chuckled, remembering their first real meeting and their shared snark over lost belonging and makeup sales ladies. Her commentary on the storms was also cute--oh, if only she knew how easy it was to get stranded!]

I don't know much about the spirits personally, but they tend to frequent different kinds of areas more readily. Water near the beach, wind near the mountains...you get the drift.

All the more reason I should speak with him. [She nods, decided.]

So they are elemental in nature. [A short pause while she considers that.] Each person responds better to certain elements (or an element) by nature. Fire has always come to me readily. I wonder if I should seek out one of the fire spirits?

There's only one spirit per element, and I hear the fire one can be very temperamental. Still, if you all ready are good with fire magic, you shouldn't have too hard of a time with him.

I've known more than a few temperamental people. [She can handle that. Maybe.] Creating blue flames that were resistant to water and wind was one of my first spells.

Oh, really? [It's the fire that caught his interest.] Didn't know that was even possible...

But it sounds like you'll be a shoo-in for learning the fire magic around here.

Magic makes a lot of seemingly impossible things possible. [Which is why she loves it so much.]
